A minister may invest a lot of time and loving care in someone who is dying -- culminating in meetings with the family, and the funeral service and beyond. I did so with C, who stated in her will that she wanted me to conduct her funeral. Her family, however, were cultists, and claimed the body. However, they still had me conduct the service -- but not in a Church. At the close, I said to C's daughter: “If there’s anything further I can do, please let me know.” She said, “You can take out the trash.” Nobody ever thanked me. OBSERVATION: I left annoyed. But that was twenty years ago. Today, I would ask where the trash is.
