Semantic Oppositions

Something I think would benefit every minister is to learn to think in terms of semantic "oppositions", or kinds of opposites. Take, say, the word "influence". There are antonyms: weakness, for example, or lack of change. There are directional opposites: say, resistance, or receptiveness. There are heteronyms: for instance, human influence, divine influence, or force of circumstance. In time, one begins to see semantic oppositions (almost) as easily as one sees the original word. This opens up Scripture, counselling, news headlines, academic debates, and various things besides. OBSERVATION: It was the foundation of a Master's thesis for which I obtained a distinction.
