I am pleased to see that Sifiso Mkhonto and I are published for a third time as co-authors on News24. The article is (click here) Why we must take pride in our language. I thought it was a good piece, but had some doubts as to whether the publisher would "print" it. It tackles the subject of linguistic self-hatred -- more mildly called linguistic insecurity -- which is rooted in cultural self-doubt. There is reason, we say, for people to treasure their parochial languages. OBSERVATION: South Africa has eleven official languages, two of which are of European origin.
