How much time have I had off in ministry? In both of my major ministries, there were the same arrangements. Excluding furloughs (sabbaticals), it was four weeks off after Christmas, and a week every three months thereafter. In addition, I had Sundays off preaching every three months -- however, this was merely a rearrangement of priorities during those weeks, so that I could focus more on visitation and administration. An old college principal (Clive Tyler) recommended six to twelve weeks off each year for ministers. OBSERVATION: Our policy for staff was that they needed as much time off as they needed to be spiritually revived. In the Church, we are not in a numbers game, but in spiritual ministry -- so numbers are not the be all and end all of time off.
