One of the pleasures of getting published is learning to have a feel for what will work. By the time I finished with writing electronics, I correctly predicted about 9 out of 10 times if an article would be accepted. In the area of philosophy, I would think I correctly predict about 8 out of 10 times. (In other areas, my ability is less). This means, too, that I am able to write material which I expect to be published only in months' or years' time, yet I am able to assess it with, say, 80% confidence. OBSERVATION: An education is valuable for the same reason. It helps one assess the quality of one's work. Otherwise one may be working in the dark. One can ask oneself, What would my professor have said?
