African Spurred Tortoise

Here is a niece's favourite pet. She asked me especially to photograph it. I would estimate that it is 30 mm wide (just over an inch). It is the African Spurred Tortoise or Centrochelys sulcata. Adults may weigh more than 100 kg (about 230 lbs). You may click on the photo to enlarge.

CORRECTION: I received a correction here. This is an Angulate Tortoise or Chersina angulata, much smaller than the African Spurred Tortoise, and limited to coastal areas in South Africa and Namibia.
