Here’s something from my MTh thesis. Faith
receives an uncommonly strong emphasis in the New Testament, which uses
“faith” and similar terms some 500 times. The New Bible Dictionary observes: “In
the New Testament faith is exceedingly prominent.” This includes those epistles which deal with leadership. For example, in 1 Timothy, the word “faith” has a 100% “relative density”, the
highest in Scripture. Yet not one of the Christian leadership authors I studied -- about 50, all of the Global North -- prioritised faith. In all cases, it was character or aspects
of character. Wofford: “For a church leader, no
attribute is more important than character.” Jinkins: “The minister’s activities are grounded, first, in the
minister’s character.” Blackaby and Blackaby:
“The first truth in leadership development is this: God’s assignments
are always based on character.” Gibbs: Paul's requirement for leadership is
“character first and foremost”. OBSERVATION: So what happened to faith?
