Preparing Prayers

When I prepare Sunday prayers, I usually take a classic prayer text as my foundation, such as one in my Manual For Ministers. I then print out the prayer double-spaced before Sunday. Reliance on "classics" assures me of balance and scope in my prayers. Yet to ensure that there is life and freshness and the Spirit's presence, I set aside half an hour before a service to revise or augment the prayers -- in prayer -- with a pen, within the Church buildings. Sometimes, then, there is more revision than there is original. I rely much on this final "fusion" on paper, but also add to it ex tempore. OBSERVATION: Often, I invite others to lead the morning prayers.
