Working on a proposal for publishers at the moment, a publisher typically wants to know what one's "presence" is -- or "footprint", "reach", and so on. That typically means on-line presence. Mine is, I suppose, comparatively large -- but interesting is the number of one-on-one, personal exchanges I have had with the public. At the moment, I estimate 300 000, without the mediation of electronic devices. I call it "real-views" as opposed to page-views. This may not be much use in a connected world, yet it does show a publisher an ability to interact with the public.
