As if students are the only ones who have worries about their results. Years ago, my South African seminary allowed six weeks for external examiners. However, my completed thesis ran into its fifteenth week. My supervisor e-mailed me: “I am just as anxious to hear whether he [the external examiner] agrees with our opinion. If you hear something please let me know immediately. Thank you!” OBSERVATION: The external examiner was an Australian. Perhaps he was chasing bunyips, or something. But my thesis was inter-disciplinary: theology combined with linguistics (or semantics). The external examiner finally came through with "Distinction". My late wife Mirjam said: "You can’t do anything the normal way."
