Potting Coils

This is what one calls potting. With Induction Balance metal detectors, the position of the coils is so critical that one needs to pot them in resin. But the potting itself affects the position of the coils, so a section of coil is left unpotted for final adjustment. I myself invented two new families of metal detector: Coil Coupled Operation and Beat Balance. Both behave like Induction Balance. Neither of them needs potting -- and Coil Coupled Operation (potentially) matches the performance of Induction Balance. OBSERVATION: What one sees here is a design by the late Andy Flind. It might look primitive, but it is one of the best.
