In electronics, if one doesn't have the tools, one can often make do. I just built two radio frequency oscillators and fed them to a mixer. I wanted to check whether the oscillators were working, mixing, locking -- without the tools to do it. LED lights work at radio frequencies -- therefore I fed the mixer's output to a LED. I could now see that the frequencies were working, mixing ... yet I couldn't tell whether they were locking. OBSERVATION: My original need was and is to detect thugs in a township -- reliably -- a block away. One doesn't find such devices in shops. But it seems easiest to begin my design by detecting body capacitance, which I am doing now.
