Assessing One's Own Work

It is very hard to assess one's own work -- where I refer here to my magnum opusThe criteria that I go by might be of some use to someone else:

• Reader reaction.
• Computer checks.
• Comparative strength.
• My postgraduate performance.
• The value of the work.
• Expert endorsement.
• Expert opinion.
OBSERVATION: In the case of my magnum opus, all of the above are top-tier, although I would characterise expert opinion is broad-spectrum.

POSTSCRIPT: What I did not list is millions of page-views of my articles in popular magazines. In some areas, I can predict with confidence what will be published, in others not.
