Another Day in South Africa

Last night, a car went tearing past our city pad. A woman screamed. At the same time, there was a crack that sounded like a gunshot, and something struck a large metallic object outside our window, as if hitting a big gong. Then someone came to our window and banged on it, a shadow against the curtain. And all fell silent. Just another day in South Africa, I thought, and I soon fell asleep. Wife E didn't even wake up. OBSERVATION: I took a look in the morning, whether there was anything with a bullet-hole in it, but I saw nothing. We have a very nice pad, if a little run down at the moment. It is surrounded by greenery, near the edge of a World Heritage Site.
