Missionaries' Fault

Someone wrote to me last week, Missions is all about Whites importing their (they think) superior culture. I looked up a paper on the subject. No, that was not the fault of Whites, it said. Their real fault lay elsewhere: White missionaries exaggerated their own importance, and wrote the locals out of the real history of missions. Therefore their influence seems far larger than it was. OBSERVATION: That was a doctoral dissertation on Samoan missions in the Pacific, by Uili Feleterika Nokise. I think that missions is not as simple as it seems, to some. There were complex things going on in missions. (From my own experience, I know that White missionaries were deferential -- in fact sacrificial -- in the mission field).
