Out-Thinking Gangs

Crime is absolutely out of control in South Africa -- all the more so among the poor. It was really costing me to visit my parents-in-law in the township, because my car got damaged every time. My father-in-law prepared a driveway, to pull right up to the front door, and enclosed it with a barbed wire fence. Last night -- night one on another visit to my parents-in-law -- I jerry-wired the front of the car to trigger an alarm, and left the locks open so that people wouldn't smash them anyway. I locked the hatch. They left the front of the car alone, but destroyed the lock on the hatch. OBSERVATION: My fault. I wasn't out-thinking them. On the bright side, that's the hatch out of commission. Neither I nor roaming gangs can open it.
