Prosperity and Sanctification

Talking to a local theology student, I said that the prosperity gospel does not understand sanctification. He couldn't see the connection. According to stock standard theology, God begins a process of sanctification (growth) in one's life at the moment of justification (conversion). Sanctification means suffering. Growth does not happen without suffering. In situations I see in Africa, I would think it is vital to understand: God is with me, even if I see no prosperity. OBSERVATION: The prosperity gospel seems cruel to me -- perhaps in another post.
