Some of wife E's friends, in advancing years, are seeking to piece together their ancestry. In South Africa, for a great many people, this is not easy at all. People's lives were so seriously disrupted over recent centuries -- and decades -- that people may not be able to piece together who their grandparents were -- or even who their parents were. One could try DNA, but that relies on other people trying DNA -- and having the means to afford it. OBSERVATION: Wife E, being a member of a clan, can piece a lot together. Even so, I think I know of only one photo of her childhood. She also has two official birth dates. When it comes to her parents, I know of no photos of their childhood, and no official birth dates. It seems to be a popular pastime, to guess when they might have been born.
