Converting Old Metal Detectors
In March 2023, I introduced regeneration to BFO metal detecting, to quadruple sensitivity—a revolutionary twist. Regeneration is a famous technique in radio reception. I suspected that this would easily turbo-charge old designs. I proved it today, with an old Andy Flind IB metal detector. I took a 180 K resistor from the receiver coil to a positive feedback point, which is the resistor on top, in the photo. OBSERVATION: I suspect that most metal detectors' performance can be boosted with a high value resistor between the receiver coil and ... just experiment. You won't do any harm.
