A Fix On The World

I took the photos yesterday, of a protest I came upon by chance. This tide began essentially with Hlaudi Motsoeneng's banning of footage of violent protest action in South Africa. In my Metaphysic, I note that information may be described as an objective, mind-independent entity which can be encoded and transmitted – and since it is mind-independent, this makes it possible, in the words of Frederick Adams, to "get a fix" on the way the world objectively is configured. But if one cannot "get a fix" on the world, then this endangers everyone. OBSERVATION: But supposing, for a moment, that Motsoeneng should be right about TV images having a detrimental influence on a population. Would he not be inconsistent, then? What else might his TV station be broadcasting that might have such detrimental effect? The massacre in Orlando? The siege in Dhaka? Domestic violence? The poaching of wildlife? James Bond? Local soap operas?
