Something that surprised me about a town where wife E and I stayed in Switzerland was that the Churches were all empty -- yet everything was closed for the Sabbath -- except for the petrol station and an adjoining café -- or spaza, as we might call them here. Old habits die hard! A professor of mine once said, it is like pulling the plug from a washing machine. The machine keeps on spinning for a while. OBSERVATION: Here in South Africa, in the cities, those old Christian habits are indeed dead (but the Churches alive). Yet in the country, there is nothing happening on the Sabbath. In the town where E's parents now live, we decided on a Sunday to go out for coffee. We only found a place about 40 km (25 mi) distant.
