I received a request this week to edit a paper which is to be delivered at a world forum, on Biblical reasons for the responsibility of "big brother" nations towards their "little brothers". The English needed some help, but it is a powerful paper -- a mix of academic work and personal experience. Among other things, the author describes how he returned with joy to his island home after a long absence. In his memory there stood the coconut trees from which (as the men do there) he "sang songs with nature" in the morning. But he found the coconut trees dead, others toppled. Everything he knew was in ruins, due to climate change (see the photo).
OBSERVATION: The question then is, is such climate change anthropogenic? What would that mean? But even if it is not, does anyone have an obligation to care? And how great is the threat of climate change really? How resilient are the islands?
