Traditional Home Funeral

I took this thirteen-second video clip of the funeral of a young woman, in her home, two months ago. A photo would never really capture what happens here. This is typically the first of three or four services one has on a person's death. One sees again the African colours, which are beautiful (once one gets used to them). It is a mood which here seems half way between grief and celebration, but as the service continued through the day, it turned to exuberant celebration -- and for a moment, shock, as the coffin was opened. Outside in the street here, a crowd was dancing.
