Salt Marsh Flats

The Cape Flats which are Cape Town were once covered with water. Salt marsh flats formed as the water receded -- of which an example here -- a small residual clump. I took this photo on the N2, between Cape Town and Somerset West -- a Shell garage in the background. OBSERVATION: In that area, there is at the moment a massive, systematic burn-off of the old salt marsh flats. I do not know who is doing it. One still sees pockets of the salt marsh as close to the city centre as Pinelands -- perhaps even closer (less than 10km).
