Death Traps

Three times in ministry, I have dealt with drownings. Two were toddlers, one a young adult. Another time, I raised the alarm when I saw a toddler drowning. The child was saved. OBSERVATION: These are awful events, not only through the tragedy that occurred, but because people feel that somebody -- not seldom, more than one person -- not seldom, their own selves -- was responsible, even if this was only indirectly. All three incidents involving toddlers happened in private swimming pools. One needs to regard swimming pools as death traps, every minute of every day, and not count on other people to know the same. The young adult drowned because he slipped at an ocean blowhole.
