Pushed Too Hard

Recently I met a really good friend from boarding school, through the Internet. I didn't have the chance to say goodbye at the time. The boarding school was pushing me hard, with training for a marathon. I said no, I couldn't go on. They pushed me harder. We didn't know it then, but I was going down with rheumatic fever. A history class ended one morning, everyone left the class, and I couldn't move. I was in terrible pain. But I had freely walked in. The village doctor put a big long needle into me, and sent me straight to hospital in Cape Town. I spent months after that recovering. Today, every day, I still feel the injuries I sustained through that.
