At one time I decided to explore what percentage of our congregation I had counselled. I was surprised to find that it was about one-third. Further, the majority of these sessions were not just "bouncing things off the minister", but dealt with life-changing moments. Therefore I consider that counselling is an important aspect of ministry, and have myself given it priority. OBSERVATION: Like most ministers, I have some training in pastoral counselling and psychology (and related fields). I consider that I learnt most through observation and experience.
