A question which has come up from time to time in my (Congregational) ministry is: do we table all correspondence we receive? Many Churches don't. My approach has been yes, everything -- if it is addressed to the members, or is intended for them. Some correspondence, though, may require written notice before it is tabled, in terms of the constitution. OBSERVATION: There are, however, the inevitable extremes. For example, someone addressed about thirty letters to the Church at once. For example, someone sent us pages of obscenities. In such cases, I have said to the meeting, here it is -- what do you think we shall do with it? But under no circumstances should correspondence simply be withheld. That means dictating to the members what they should and shouldn't see.
