Totalising Ideas

The BBC this morning reports the first convictions for genocide in Cambodia. I visited Cambodia five years before the Khmer Rouge was disbanded (they were responsible for the genocide). The devastation and trauma was still at its peak, and came as a great shock to me. Pol Pot (pictured), who was "Brother No. 1", envisaged a "classless agrarian utopia". But as happens with "totalising" ideas, this led to one of the greatest disasters of history. OBSERVATION: A traumatised and disorientated Cambodia has been recovering. The Church there is growing, and enjoys acceptance.
