I heard of a businessman last night who doesn't have the money to pay his staff at the end of the month. Many years ago, before a Sunday service, the deacons had just prayed in the Church vestry, and we had opened the vestry door to enter the Church, when the treasurer said to me at the door: "I don't know where your next salary is coming from." Which is to say, there wasn't the money to pay me. I resolved that day always to be prepared for shocks when I entered the pulpit. OBSERVATION: This served me well throughout my ministry. And that salary did materialise.
