A 'Real' Official

I was due to appear in court this morning, as a state witness. It would have been another long, fruitless journey -- but a prosecutor helped me to avoid that. She said I could contact her personally to find out whether it was worth my while. Yesterday she told me not to come. OBSERVATION: This prosecutor made an impression on me -- because she was open about her struggles. In South Africa, government officials generally try to paper over the cracks and present a bullet-proof image, and this does not work. I think it would be far better if they could "be real" about their frustrations and struggles, their shortcomings and failures -- and I think the public would understand.
