Recently I sketched signs of recovery in one of my major ministries -- for example a 50% increase in giving at 14 months, and a 40% increase in attendance at 19 months. What led to this? I kept a record of that, too. Here were the decisions:
In the first month ..... divided up responsibilities through portfolios
Also in the first month ..... content, content, content in services
Month 3 ..... organised the finances (previously chaotic)
Month 4 ..... introduced ministry by members on Sundays
Month 6 ..... introduced a Church newsletter
About month 12 ..... applied Church discipline
Month 15 ..... installed deputies to all leaders of groups
Also month 15 ..... appointed an auditor, for confidence in the finances
Month 17 ..... introduced elders for the spiritual care of the Church
Month 18 ..... made a significant commitment to missions
OBSERVATION: However, when one speaks of recovery and the reasons for recovery, there are things which, at the same time, will work against such recovery. I shall consider this in a future post.
