Setting Facts Straight

I have sketched on this blog some unfortunate problems I have had with ministers of the Presbyterian Church. Here is a slice of my experience -- in the interests, too, of stating the facts. Why is this important? All sorts of things ride on a Church's / minister's affiliation: ministry, property ownership, pensions, appointments, and so on -- yet I have been beset with false information.
Last year, I informed Rev. Ewald Moerman (Presbyterian) in writing about my Church:
     • "Sea Point Evangelical Congregational Church [is] independent now".
Rev. Moerman then wrote to me:
     • "Sea Point ... is now a United Congregation [not independent]".
I asked Rev. Bax, a Presbyterian minister, to kindly check. He wrote:
     • "[Rev. Moerman] said that he had been completely misled".
Rev. Moerman apologised. This was accepted. But then Rev. Moerman wrote:
     • "The Sea Point congregation you speak of is a UCCSA congregation".
I asked Rev. Ndlazi of the UCCSA. This was not so, he wrote. I asked Rev. Moerman:
     • "Is someone feeding you false information?"
Rev. Moerman wrote:
     • "I fear, you are the one who has given me misleading information."
He wrote: "FORGIVE". I should "practise the one great Christian virtue". I wrote that I simply wished to set the facts straight, which is natural. Rev. George of the UCCSA kindly called me up. Sea Point was independent, he said. OBSERVATION: This is abridged, but I think it reflects the situation truly. Comments are welcome (click on Comments).
