Controversial Proposal

One of my more controversial proposals -- I mean, proposed by me, with the team behind me -- was to relocate memorials to the dead, and replace them with testimonies to a living Church -- particularly in the entrance area of the Church. We therefore asked the congregation whether there was any living connection with memorials on our walls -- then we moved them from places of prominence to our transepts. OBSERVATION: It was a good move. It brought new life and purpose to the entrance area. But when I say that it was controversial, I mean that there was vocal opposition, although as best I remember only two people voted against. The congregation were very much in favour of the move. At root, it was the question as to whether the purpose or the history of the Church matters more.
