My supervisor for an MTh was Dr. Vincent Atterbury. In spite of the English name, he is Afrikaans. He obtained his doctorate in Christian leadership -- with a radical view. Perhaps his most essential points are these:
"All that church leaders therefore require, to operate as effective leaders, and to effectively build up congregations, is a calling and a touch by Jesus Christ through His Spirit. ... Any other means, which might be described as a means of assistance, should be regarded with suspicion. God’s Spirit is sufficient to build up His church. He does not need any means of assistance."OBSERVATION: That is my translation, from Afrikaans. It stands in stark in contrast with many Christian leadership theories today. My own work and my own approach had much in common with Dr. Atterbury's.
