Join the Underground
Something that annoys me sometimes is sanitised news -- together with an emphasis on stories which reveal sensitivity, correctness, responsiveness -- simply because this is not the world we live in. One example among many is the BBC. I know a newspaper editor who says, I don't publish the abuses because the abuses happen every day. As a newspaper editor, he knows. In fact, he may not be a newspaper editor if he published what he knows. OBSERVATION: Ministers are, I think, quite exposed to the real world -- unless they avoid it, which many do. But in addition to simply being a minister, I recommend becoming involved in the "underground". Get out of your bubble, or your cocoon. For one thing, it makes one a more effective minister, beginning with one's own congregation.
