New Hook and Eye
In 1890, Frank Emerson de Long became a millionaire when he invented the "hump" of the hook and eye. I have seen (I am hesitant to say invented, but the designs originate with me) two fairly radical alternatives to the hook and eye -- plus variations on the theme -- both of which include a functional equivalent to the hump. I have done proof-of-concept for both -- in other words, I know that they work. OBSERVATION: Interestingly, both of my alternatives have to do with binary logic or semantic oppositions. It seems quite strange that such abstract theory has a bearing on reality. If anyone has an interest, do let me know. My designs are still covert.
