Collection of Medications

Our local pharmacy introduced a "Collect" scheme. To speed up operations, medicines are set aside in advance in a little package, and the customer just steps right up and receives them. That is the plan, in theory. I saw the scheme in action last week. Someone comes to collect their package. They receive a number in the queue -- which is the back of the general queue. Finally -- about 30 minutes later -- their number is called. They step up to the counter. A chemist says, Well haha. There is no package, actually. The medicines must first be found. Finally -- now some 45 minutes later -- the package is ready. From there, the customer goes to the back of the payments queue.

Another problem is: if you don't collect your pre-prepared medication immediately for any reason, the till rings it up anyway if you try to buy anything else at the pharmacy (say, a shampoo) - then the manager has to be called to the till, the medication amount reflecting on the till has to be cancelled, but only by the pharmacist himself who has to be called, then the amount gets deducted from the shampoo etc. and the customer spends 45 minutes waiting.
