Are You Woke?

There is much discussion about the term "woke" in the Church, with approaches from various angles. Are you woke? I am woke. You are unwoke. Everybody should be woke. And so on. I agree fully that one should be woke. This means that one has woken up to issues of social oppression. The term, though, is fundamentally wrong, in this sense: One should say no more than, "I have just awoken." If in fact this is the case. This belongs to my theology and my philosophy. There is a danger in believing that one "is" woke. To say that one has just awoken is to put it more radically, too, as it should be. OBSERVATION: This is true internally and externally: I have just awoken in my spirit, and I have just awoken to reality. See my related article, New Critical Theory.
