Vaccinations and Trust

Most people in South Africa do not want the COVID-19 vaccine. The government is perplexed. I think it comes down to trust. For instance, our government stated on 29 June that 0.0001-0.0004% of people needed “healthcare urgently” after the vaccine. Then on 13 August, they stated that ≤1% “usually require clinical management”, a big increase. If, then, people are told that the vaccine is completely harmless, as they are, this creates a problem of trust. One would better say, Here are the possible side-effects, this is when you need to be alarmed, and this is how you can receive the antidote. This is our president being vaccinated.

POSTSCRIPT: The government since replaced their 13 August 2021 media briefing with another. This is really bad practice. But the original statistics (now removed) are supported elsewhere, for example by the FDA.
