Ships in the Night

Some of my (soon to be) fellow authors include prominent South Africans: John de Gruchy, Frank Chikane, Allan Boesak, and so on. The curious thing is that South African philosophers and theologians are often like ships passing in the night. OBSERVATION: I perceive the reason as this: that while there is lively debate within certain circles, South Africans are not comfortable with academic detachment. They don't know what to do with it, they are not trained to deal with it, and sometimes they react very badly to it. Present company (above) excluded. That is to speak too generally.
