Fakes are a big problem in the Church, far and wide. With the passing of time, such people may come to
oppose the Church or its ministry. Not that people
intend to be fakes. It is the story of the wheat and the tares, which grow. I am often asked how one may
recognise the fake. Jesus Himself suggested that it was for God to know this. In other words, one may not be
able to recognise them. Besides, the goal is not to reject fakes, but to redeem them. I have said that there are three fairly reliable signs that people could be fake:
• Adulation of the minister
• The absence of a sense of sin (even where Christ is the Saviour from sin) • People who have suffered great tragedy
OBSERVATION: However, one cannot by any means tar all such persons with the same brush. For instance, great tragedy may also lead to great faith or humility. One would need to define "fakes" more closely, but my song has been sung for this post.
