Advertising's Glass Ceiling

I have been experimenting with advertising for my philosophy book. The reception of advertisements has been way, way better than average, with CPM (cost per thousand impressions) in some cases less than US 20¢. One could therefore reach a million people for well under $200. However, it isn't a good idea to go much above $2 per day. The reason is that philosophy stirs up reactions, both positive and negative, and reactions proliferate. One needs to interact with them -- particularly the negative ones. While one can delete them, I don't do that. Therefore, spend more than $2 a day, and one risks things getting out of hand.

Where do you advertise it?

I advertise on Facebook. It starts cheap, is relatively simple to do, and there is a wide audience. Something I learnt is, advertise the publisher, not just the book. And some markets are much, much more receptive than others. A $10 test ad reveals a lot. There is a very keen interest in philosophy, at least my kind of philosophy, although I don't know how that translates into sales. The data I receive are very limited there.
