Lazy Minister (Not)
Several times, as minister, our congregations grew to the size where we were too small to appoint new staff, too big not to. A few times, we created new positions on the staff, and it always led to further growth. One such proposal failed. Attendance was strong, so that various people put it to me that we should create another pastoral position. But when I raised it tentatively in a meeting, a clique formed, who vigorously claimed that the minister was lazy, and intended to sit back and watch the new appointee. OBSERVATION: This was not the case at all -- but after that, I decided to leave the initiative to members -- and it didn't come to be. With one minister on the pastoral staff, most Churches do not exceed an average of 80 at Sunday service(s). Outside of Sunday services, attendance may be the same again in any given week.
