Wicked Little Letters

In the early 20th century, there was a major sensation when abusive letters were circulated in Littlehampton, UK. It has now been portrayed in a movie: Wicked Little Letters. A woman, a common sort, was tried and jailed for the letters -- and jailed again. But it was not her. It was, instead, a very proper, churchgoing citizen. So it is in the Church, too. It may be the most upstanding member who is secretly the worst. OBSERVATION: It has been said: look for the person you least suspect in the Church. It is them. Of course that may not always be true.

POSTSCRIPT: During my father's ministry, letters went round, accusing him of abusing his wife and children. This was not so, as I myself can attest. He discovered who it was: an unassuming, elderly woman in the congregation. He approached her one day, and simply handed her the letters. There wasn't another one.
