Fact-Finding Report [Continued] ...

On Saturday, I blogged that there had been a huge commotion surrounding a fact-finding report. In fact the Church treasurer made a second statement -- and put his signature to it. I had not seen this statement, but the Legal Practice Councii turned it up, and sent it to me.

The treasurer: "During a certain period of your [my] employment with the Church both you and the Church, by mutual agreement, contributed to your private pension fund. ... This pension fund is registered in your name ... The Church has no connection".

The implication here, again, is that only one fund existed. But the fact-finding report considers that we have a "material discrepancy" here.

Again, the findings of the report: "Our client [myself] is, upon his retirement, entitled to two (2) pension payouts from two (2) separate pension funds/accounts". One of these accounts is "a Church-pension ... not honoured to date".

The attorneys who wrote up the report estimate that R2,315,909.09 is unaccounted for. OBSERVATION: A point of interest here: the treasurer claims that the pension he refers to ran "during a certain period of your employment". This implies: not through all of my employment -- and that is true. But pensions are integral to a salary. They don't start and stop. In this case, there was a pension no. 1, then a pension no. 2, which followed one another -- so there was no start and stop. One of these pensions is unaccounted for. People have sought to cast a shadow over the fact-finding report. But here is something important: we turned up my original employment contract, too -- and the elusive pension is in there.

POSTSCRIPT: A point of detail, which is vitally important to Congregationalists: ministers are not "employed" by the Church. They are called by God.
