Matchbox Cracker

This post has to be destined for notoriety on the Internet. I forget where along the path of life I was taught to do this, but kids, it is good. Fire-crackers no longer being so easy to come by, here's how one makes a powerful cracker from a simple matchbox and matches (you may click on the images to enlarge). First, take part of the striking surface off a matchbox as shown at the top, cutting it into two squares. Place some matches on one of these squares, with the striking surface upwards, as shown. Then place the other one of these squares on top of the matches, with the striking surface downwards. The matches are now sandwiched between two striking surfaces. Now take a hammer, and strike the top of the sandwich flat hard smack in the middle. You have to get this right, so that there is pressure for the explosion. The rather pleasing result is pictured / imagined at the bottom. OBSERVATION: Do not get your face too close to the action. Sometimes little bits go flying with the explosion.
