The builder needed water on our plot this week, to start building our small cottage -- he could do little without it. But there is no water supply and no electricity. What to do? The nearest water connection is in the village graveyard, more than R20 000 distant, so to speak. However, a stream is 40 metres
/
yards away, and several metres below the tank that one sees here. I weighed up various possibilities, then ordered an electric pump (sourced in Johannesburg), powered by a car
/
auto battery, in turn charged by the sun. I was apprehensive that my own 'expensive' system (about R4 000) might not work. It
did in fact work today, as intended (see the photo). It should fill several tanks a day from the stream.
OBSERVATION: I seldom mention companies by name on this blog, but
Rudd Products (the pump) deserves a mention for exceptional service. They knew what they were talking about, they knew how to connect with the customer, they have an excellent product, and they were fast.
