I took this photo in the Eastern Cape, a familiar South African sight -- a "tarantula" spider's giant cocoon (an egg sac). Where one sees such a sac, one may know that there is a
big spider somewhere close by, aggressively guarding it. Try touching it (not). The spider's real name is "common rain spider" (
Palystes superciliosus), since it comes indoors before rain.
