Yesterday I attended the party to end all parties (pictured) -- the after-party of a Jewish
bar mitzvah which took place on Saturday. The young man who came of age was a first-born son, the first of a new generation to celebrate his bar mitzvah (meaning "Son of the Commandment"). I said to the family that it was a special gift and privilege for me to attend.
OBSERVATION: However it is not just a ceremony. It involves long and diligent preparation for the boy, and then he needs to prove his learning in the synagogue.
